Primary Flights – Helicopter Emergency Medical Service/Search and Rescue
Primary flights, described as Helicopter Emergency Service (HEMS) and Search and Rescue (SAR), are those made where a person’s life is in immediate danger and should be treated or transported to a hospital as a life saving measure.
Therefore, upon receiving a call for the helicopter to respond, the LifeFlight Dispatcher will consult with the medical team to asses the need. Once this is verified the aircraft will be dispatched to the scene, whilst the flight dispatcher coordinates completion of the flight to a medical facility in Panama or arranges Medical Evacuation.
Secondary Flights – Helicopter Air Ambulance
Secondary flights are those where urgency is required, although the mission can be planned in advance. They are also missions such as patient transfers, or moves to expedite the transportation of doctors, medical teams, equipment, blood, organs and medication etc.
