Forlacol was founded in 1976 making it one of Panama’s oldest Insurance Broker Firms. The company was founded by Jaime Ford Boyd, former ambassador to the US and Spain, Zona Libre Entrepreneur, and current director of ASSA Insurance company. Forlacol means “Ford, Lara, Colon.”

The firm is currently managed by Ursula Kiener Ford who is the third generation in the company. Ursula’s background is in assisting people who wish to relocate and/or invest in Panama. She hosts events for Expats to integrate with Panamanian Society. Ursula sits on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and is the Vice President of the Tourism Committee of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives. Her current duties under the government are as the Director of Investment for the Ministry of Commerce.

HEALTH CARE IN PANAMA
Panama’s health care standards are up to par with first world hospitals and doctors, which is the reason why Panama is rapidly becoming a destination for medical tourism. For information on hospitals in Panama City, click here and outside of Panama City, click here.

Health care providers you know and trust have branches in Panama, such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, IHI BUPA, and World Wide Medical, as well as the local Panamanian Insurance Companies, like PALIC, ANCON and ASSA.

Health Insurance premiums can be significantly lower since Panama is not a litigious country.

It is extremely important to get health insurance in Panama since hospitals will require by law proof of insurance (your card) or a credit card before allowing you to be admitted into the hospital, even for persons in critical conditions.

Your health insurance policy can cover you for hospitalization and/or medical expenses. You can obtain Local or International Coverage.

MEDICAL AND/OR LAB REQUIREMENTS

Requirements depend on the company’s policies, some have no requirements, but the standard is:

For children – pediatric report required

When we present you with options for health insurance, we also include the medical requirements each one solicits. Medical exams costs must be covered by the person applying for the insurance. We will assist you in coordinating the medical appointment.

WHAT IS THE SANTA FE PLAN?
It is a Medical plan that includes medical services and hospitalization expenses designed for people over 60. This plan provides broad protection against all those unforeseen health expenses to an amazingly low cost.

HOW DOES THIS PLAN WORK?

When you subscribe in the Plan you become a MEMBER and you are shortly eligible to receive medical and hospital services with a few minor limitations. There are no deductibles to fill, coupons to complete, or applications for procedures. When you ask for the services you only have to show your ID card.  

WHO OFFERS THE SERVICES OF THE PLAN?

Medicals services are offered by more than 100 doctor specialists in Hospital Santa Fe, Clínicas San Fernando*, Consultorios Médicos Paitilla, Consultorios Médicos San Judas Tadeo and others. The Plan also puts at your services the disposition of the Hospital Santa Fe.

In cases of extreme emergency the member can receive medical attention in any other hospital in Panama or in the interior of the country.

*Note: Clínicas San Fenando – Coronado Branch – is not in the network because of it has another administration. You can only go there in case of emergencies.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PLAN?

The applicant must be over 60 years of age and must complete the application form and a health declaration.

Monthly payments can be done in the Santa Fe Hospital window, in any HSBC branch, by credit card or bank withdrawal and you will receive a 10% discount for paying on time for a limited period.

Not paying on time might cause the cancelation of insurance coverage.

WHAT SERVICES DOES THIS PLAN OFFER?

This plan offers the broadest medical and hospital services in and out of the hospital, including medical consultations, surgeries, emergencies, lab exams, x rays, and physiotherapy.

WHICH ILLNESSES DOES THIS PLAN COVER?

This plan offers medical/hospital services for most conditions and illnesses that present after the person affiliates.
Please note: pre-existing conditions are not cover.

Laboratories and X-rays must to be requested by an affiliated doctor who has seen the affiliated person in a medical appointment.

Special procedures, hospitalizations, and ambulatory surgeries require pre-authorization from the Plan’s Medical Board.

WHAT LIMITATIONS DOES THIS PLAN HAVE?

You have to wait 2 years to receive surgery services for some medical conditions such as hernia and cataracts. Please see below a list of illness that the plan will not be covered during the first 2 years. Pre-existing conditions will not be covered.

* Gallbladder or bile ducts operation 
* Excision of sebaceous cyst or lypoma. 
* Cataract or pterygium

* Bypass surgery on coronary artery or myocardial re-vasculation 
* Chemotherapy due to cancer

HOW DOES ONE SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PLAN?

You must have a complete physical exam which we will coordinate, then fill out the application, and a health declaration. The cost is $50.00 for these medical exams.

When the application is accepted, you must sign the service contract for medical and hospital services and pay for the first month.

*** Medical and hospital services will begin the first day of the next month.
